Srinagar | October, 01 : The State Investigation Agency (SIA), Kashmir, conducted searches at two residential premises in Kulgam and Qazigund on Thursday in connection with an alleged human trafficking and cyber fraud network, reports said.
The raids were carried out against an organized transnational network at the residences of Gulam Nabi Khanday alias Charlie alias Mohsin alias Jerry Khan in Bungam Chewgam, Kulgam, and Ashiq Hussain Sheikh in Baghpora Yar Khushipora, Qazigund. The searches form part of an ongoing probe into a serious network allegedly engaged in trafficking unemployed youth from Jammu & Kashmir and other regions under the guise of overseas employment, followed by their forced exploitation in cyber scam operations in Myanmar.
The operation was conducted in the early hours pursuant to search warrants issued by the competent court in connection with FIR No. 01/2026 of Police Station SIA Kashmir. During the searches, officers seized incriminating materials including mobile phones, identity documents, PAN cards, a passport, and job agreements. Preliminary investigations revealed that local facilitators, in coordination with foreign-based handlers, lured vulnerable youth with foreign job offers and moved them through Thailand to the Myawaddy region of Myanmar to execute cyber fraud. Authorities confirmed that cooperation from national agencies and international partners has been solicited to dismantle the entire transnational chain, reports said.
