Handwara : Police on Saturday said that it has detained five unlawfuls and seized five vehicles loaded with illegally extracted minerals during night raids conducted at Waskora (Talri Nala) in Handwara.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, Police said that an operation was launched by Police Station Handwara to curb the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in the district. During the raid, officers intercepted and seized four tippers (registration numbers JK02AE-6725, JK01L-7134, JK04A-7576, and JK02AC-7507) along with one tractor (Engine No. 737398) carrying illegal mined material.
Legal action under the relevant provisions of the MMDR Act has been initiated against the detained individuals and seized vehicles. In its statement Police emphasized that strict and coordinated action with concerned departments will continue against all illegal mining activities in the area.
