Kupwara : Students of the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme, currently undergoing a one-month training at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kupwara, on Friday visited the farm of progressive woman farmer Gulshan Ji at Bakiahkar in Handwara.
Dr G. M. Bhat, Head, KVK Kupwara, accompanied the students during the field visit and provided them with practical demonstrations of various components of Gulshan Ji’s Integrated Farming Model (IFM).
The students were exposed to different farming activities, including hydroponics, dairy farming, vermicomposting, greenhouse cultivation and kitchen gardening. The visit provided them with an opportunity to understand the practical application of integrated farming systems and their potential for improving farm income and generating rural livelihoods.
Gulshan Ji, an educated and enterprising woman with a Diploma in Nursing, has opted for entrepreneurship instead of seeking conventional employment. Through her integrated farming enterprise, she has not only created a livelihood for herself but has also emerged as a job provider and an inspiration for rural youth and women.
During the interaction, Gulshan Ji expressed her gratitude to KVK Kupwara, the Agriculture Department and the Animal Husbandry Department for their continued support, technical guidance and cooperation in developing her integrated farming enterprise.
The interaction between the farmer and RAWE students provided the trainees with valuable first-hand exposure to integrated farming, farm entrepreneurship and sustainable rural livelihood generation.
