‘Do not harass the innocent; do not spare the guilty’: LG Sinha to new Officers

• Says “Appointment letters carry hopes, trust of J&K people”
• Officers told to combine authority with compassion

Srinagar, | Sept. 18:Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday presented appointment letters to 29 newly selected officers of the Jammu Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Service, marking their entry into the police service following a merit-based selection process.
Addressing the newly appointed officers, Sinha said the appointment letters were not merely official documents but represented the trust placed in them by the people of Jammu Kashmir.
He described the appointments as a call to serve, protect the dignity and security of citizens and uphold the rule of law.
Congratulating the officers, the Lieutenant Governor appreciated their perseverance in successfully completing the selection process conducted by the Jammu Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC). He also commended the Commission for maintaining fairness and transparency in the recruitment process.
Sinha said the journey of the newly appointed officers had only begun and that their primary responsibility would be public service rather than personal achievement.
He said the officers would face evolving security challenges, including terrorism, radicalisation and emerging methods of terror financing involving cryptocurrency and money laundering.
“After your training, when you wear the khaki uniform, you will stand as a protective shield between the terrorist forces and organisations across the border and the ordinary citizens of Jammu Kashmir. You will be the guardians of the dreams of every citizen, and this is no small responsibility,” Sinha said.
He stressed that protecting every citizen and ensuring a fear-free environment was among the most important responsibilities entrusted to police officers in a democracy.
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the sacrifice and courage of Jammu Kashmir Police personnel who, he said, had worked over the years to safeguard peace and harmony.
He urged the newly appointed officers to exercise authority with compassion, protect the rights of vulnerable sections and uphold communal harmony.
Reiterating the principle, “Do not harass the innocent; do not spare the guilty,” Sinha asked the officers to wear the khaki uniform with pride while keeping their conscience at the centre of their decisions.
“You will possess authority, and you must combine that authority with the values of compassion so that human sensitivity remains an essential part of all your actions,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor further advised the officers to remain committed to integrity and duty even in difficult circumstances.
“You must resolve that, regardless of how difficult circumstances may become, you will choose integrity and duty. Always remember that the respect commanded by the uniform depends on the honesty, courage and conduct of the officers who wear it,” Sinha said.
