September 17: As part of the ongoing public outreach and community policing initiatives, DIG North Kashmir Range, Dr Vinod Kumar-IPS presided over Thana Diwas at Police Station Bomai, Zaingeer, in PD Sopore, where he interacted with a large gathering of people from different walks of life.

The programme witnessed participation of respectable citizens, civil society members, representatives of different communities, youth and other stakeholders from Bomai, Zaingeer and adjoining areas. SSP Sopore Shri Iftikhar Talib-JKPS, along with other officers of Police District Sopore, also attended the programme.

During the interaction, participants raised various issues concerning policing, public services, traffic, drugs and other matters affecting the local community. The officers heard the grievances and suggestions of the participants and assured that genuine police-related issues would be addressed on priority, while matters concerning other departments would be taken up with the concerned authorities.

Addressing the gathering, DIG NKR Dr Vinod Kumar-IPS emphasised that Thana Diwas provides an important platform for direct interaction between Police and the public and helps in strengthening mutual trust and cooperation. He stressed the importance of accessible, responsive and people-friendly policing, with police stations functioning not merely as enforcement units but also as institutions of public service.

The DIG highlighted the vital role of community cooperation in maintaining peace and preventing crime. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and share timely information regarding drug trafficking, crime, suspicious activities and other issues affecting society. He particularly stressed the collective responsibility of parents, teachers, religious leaders, civil society and Police in protecting youth from drugs and other negative influences.

SSP Sopore Shri Iftikhar Talib-JKPS, while welcoming the DIG and addressing the gathering, reiterated the commitment of Sopore Police towards professional, fair and responsive policing. He emphasised continued engagement with citizens beyond formal programmes such as Thana Diwas and encouraged the public to approach Police freely with their grievances and concerns.

The programme concluded with an open interaction between the DIG NKR and participants, during which various suggestions and concerns were discussed.

Police reiterates its commitment to strengthening police-public partnership through regular outreach and community engagement, while working collectively with citizens towards maintaining peace, preventing crime and building a safe and secure society.
