Ganderbal| Sept. 12:District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, successfully conducted 3rd National Lok-Adalat of the year 2026, Saturday in District Ganderbal.
The 3rd National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Abdul Nasir, Chairman DLSA (Principal District & Sessions Judge), Ganderbal in presence of Ld. Judicial Officers and Secretary, DLSA Ganderbal at District Court Ganderbal and other notable attendees included LADCs, Panel Lawyers, Bar Members, bank officials, representatives of various departments, AdhikarMitras and litigants.
The National Lok Adalat was held under the direction and supervision of the Chairman and under the guidance of Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal where different types of cases were taken up for settlement, which includes MACT claims, Bank Recovery Cases, Bank Pre-Litigation Cases, Criminal Compoundable Cases, Matrimonial Cases, Civil Cases and Traffic Challans.
A total of five Benches were constituted for amicable settlement of the cases. The first bench was presided over by Abdul Nasir, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Ganderbal and Advocate Syed Shafat Andrabi as Bench Member. The second bench was presided over by Nusrat Ali Hakak, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ganderbal with Romani Syed, Assistant LADC, Ganderbal as Bench Member. The third Bench was presided over by Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary DLSA, Ganderbal with Sajid Irfan, Deputy LADC, Ganderbal as Bench Member. The fourth bench was presided over by Mahoor, Munsiff/ JMIC, Ganderbal with Shaheena Ali, Assistant, LADC, Ganderbal as Bench Member, while the fifth bench was presided over by Moonis Wahid, Munsiff/ JMIC, Kangan with Advocate Suhail Ahmad Mir, Panel Lawyer as Bench Member.
The first to fourth bench heard cases at the District Court Complex, Ganderbal, while as the fifth bench heard cases at the Munsiff Court Complex, Kangan.
A total number of 558 cases were taken up, out of which 452 cases were amicably settled, resulting in a settlement amount of Rs 5785790. The cases disposed off included bank recovery cases, matrimonial cases, Civil Cases, electricity cases and pre-litigation cases etc.
During the proceedings, Advocates, litigants and bank officials were also informed and sensitized about the upcoming Special Lok Adalat to be conducted exclusively for cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which is scheduled to be held on 17 October 2026. They were encouraged to utilize the platform of Lok Adalat for speedy, amicable and cost-effective resolution of such disputes.
The National Lok Adalat provided an effective platform for the parties to resolve their disputes amicably, expeditiously and without prolonged litigation. The initiative furthered the objective of access to justice, reduction of pendency and promotion of amicable dispute resolution.
District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal, reiterated its commitment towards providing accessible and free legal services to eligible persons and creating greater awareness among the general public regarding the various mechanisms available for speedy and amicable resolution of disputes.
