Chib Asks Parents To Keep Children Away From Water Bodies
Bandipora : Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, on Friday visited Kaloosa to review the search and rescue operation launched after a young boy drowned in Nallah Madhumati on Thursday evening.
The DC expressed deep sorrow over the incident and conveyed her condolences to the boy’s parents and family members. She said tohe boy had reportedly gone near the bank to retrieve a ball while playing and accidentally slipped into the fast-flowing water.
The search operation was started within an hour of the incident. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jammu and Kashmir Police, District Administration and local volunteers are jointly carrying out the search.
During her visit, the DC said the District Administration had contacted NHPC authorities last night and requested a temporary halt in the downstream flow of water to support the rescue operation. She further said NHPC had been directed to completely stop the discharge of water from 11 AM to 5 PM on Friday so that the water level could fall and rescue teams could search the stream bed more effectively.
The DC also said wire mesh barricades and fencing have been installed along most parts of the embankment. However, some openings have been kept for people to carry out daily activities such as washing clothes. Urging people to remain careful, the DC appealed to parents and residents living near rivers and other water bodies to keep a close watch on children and prevent them from going near dangerous water channels. She stressed that greater caution and supervision can help prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
