Srinagar, Sept 11: Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has directed all medical, nursing, paramedical, technical and allied healthcare staff to strictly adhere to the prescribed professional dress code while performing their duties at the college and its associated hospitals.
In a circular issued by the Principal, GMC Anantnag, the administration said doctors, residents, medical officers, house surgeons, interns, nursing staff, technicians, pharmacists, physiotherapists and other healthcare personnel must wear the prescribed apron along with an identity card while on duty.
The directive comes after the administration observed that some personnel were performing their duties without following the prescribed professional dress code.
The college said adherence to the dress code was essential for maintaining professionalism, discipline, decorum, hygiene and proper identification of staff within hospital premises.
“All concerned shall ensure that they are appropriately and professionally dressed during duty hours,” the circular said, particularly while attending to patients, conducting rounds and working in OPDs, emergency/casualty, wards, operation theatres and other clinical and service areas.
The instructions have been made effective immediately, with Heads of Departments, Medical Superintendents and Deputy Medical Superintendents directed to ensure strict compliance among staff working under their respective control.
The administration further warned that instances of non-compliance would be brought to the notice of the competent authority for appropriate action under rules.
Interns and students have been specifically directed to mandatorily wear aprons and prominently display their identity cards while attending the hospital and performing academic or clinical duties.
Security personnel at the associated hospitals have also been instructed not to permit interns and students to enter OPDs, casualty, wards, operation theatres or other clinical/service areas without complying with the prescribed dress-code requirements.
The move is aimed at ensuring a more professional hospital environment while facilitating clear identification of personnel attending to patients and performing clinical duties.
