Shopian : Police on Saturday said that seven dividuals have been arrested in connection with a suspicious transaction involving a “Trath Gola,” which was falsely projected as a rare and valuable meteorite stone.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Police said that the individuals were brought to Police Station Heerpora for questioning and legal action. They have been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Bhat (resident of Bagi Islam Baramulla), Safeeruddin Mir (resident of Rajghat Baramulla), Abdul Rashid Kirmani (resident of Rawalpora Srinagar), Mohammad Shafi Mir (resident of Zaloora Sopore), Imtiyaz Ahmad Bakloo (resident of Pushroo Shangus Anantnag), Arshid Ahmad Wani (resident of Khurri Batpora, Kulgam), and Syed Gulzar Ahmad (resident of Lakdipora Nihama).
Police said that ₹5,00,000 in cash has been recovered from the spot along with a box containing the stone. Two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK01AQ-1311 (Alto) and JK03B-5955 (Alto) have been also impounded for examination. A case vide FIR No. 95/2026 under relevant legal provisions has been registered at Police Station Heerpora. In its statement Police also appealed people not to pay heed to fraudulent claims involving rare or meteorite stones and advised them to verify the authenticity of such objects through competent authorities before entering into any financial transactions.
