IGP visits spot, reviews ops
Srinagar, Sep 04: A terrorist was killed and an AK rifle along with other war-like stores recovered during an encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Ashdar Gali area of Budgam district, officials said Friday.
The operation, involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF, was launched on Thursday following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.
Chinar Corps posted on X, “Based on specific intelligence input, a joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF in Ashdar Gali, Budgam.
“Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist was neutralised and one AK rifle was recovered. A search operation is in progress.”
An AK rifle and other war-like stores were recovered from the encounter site, the Army said, adding that searches were continuing in the area.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar also visited the area near the operation site to take stock of the security operation.
Security forces have been carrying out searches in the area since Thursday following the exchange of fire. Officials said further searches were underway to rule out the presence of any other terrorists and ensure that no further threat remained.
The identity of the slain terrorist was not immediately disclosed.
