School premises in Dooru among properties attached after investigation; school closed since 2022
Sopore|Sept, 3: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday attached several properties, including a school, allegedly linked to the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The properties, located in the Sopore area, comprise two buildings, six shops and two kanals of land, a police spokesman said.
The action was taken after completion of legal proceedings under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), police said.
The properties came to light during the investigation of FIR No. 42/2025, registered at Police Station Sopore under Sections 10 and 13 of the UA(P) Act.
Police said investigation, examination of official and revenue records and verification with concerned authorities established the alleged linkage of the properties with JeI.
Based on a dossier submitted by Sopore Police, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, through an order dated August 12, 2026, notified the premises of Islamia Model School, Dooru, under Section 8(1) of the UA(P) Act, 1967.
The school has remained closed since 2022. The notified property includes two double-storied buildings, six shops and two kanals of land.
Following the notification, the District Magistrate, Baramulla, issued necessary orders under Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the UA(P) Act on the request of Sopore Police.
Police, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate, subsequently carried out the attachment of the properties on the ground in accordance with law.
Police said the action was part of its ongoing investigation to identify and take legal action against properties and assets linked to proscribed organisations and their associated networks.
Sopore Police said it would continue to take lawful action against properties allegedly linked to proscribed organisations and ensure that such assets are not used for unlawful activities.
