Srinagar, Sep 3 : In a significant boost to rail connectivity in south Kashmir, the Railway Board has approved an experimental stoppage for the Jammu Tawi–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express at Anantnag railway station.
The Board has directed Northern Railway to introduce the halt for Train Nos. 26401/26402 Jammu Tawi–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express from an early convenient date, subject to the required security clearance.
The stoppage will initially be on a trial basis, with railway authorities asked to monitor passenger patronage and ticket sales at Anantnag before taking a final call on making the halt permanent.
The Railway Board has also instructed the concerned officials to ensure wide publicity of the new stoppage and implement the order in coordination with all relevant departments.
The decision is expected to benefit thousands of passengers from Anantnag and adjoining districts by providing direct access to the high-speed Vande Bharat service connecting Kashmir with Jammu.
