DM B’pora chairs District-Level NCORD Meeting, Reviews NDPS Cases, Anti-Drug measures

Bandipora :District Magistrate (DM) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora, chaired a meeting of the District Level NCORD Committee at the SSP Office, Bandipora, to review the status of NDPS/PIT NDPS cases and the implementation of anti-drug measures across the district.

During the meeting, the Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora, Ajaz Ahmad Zargar presented the status of cases registered under the NDPS/PIT NDPS Acts and apprised the committee about the action taken against drug peddlers and traffickers, including enforcement measures and action against vehicles and driving licences linked to drug-related cases.

The District Magistrate directed the concerned departments to ensure strict implementation of all prescribed measures and strengthen coordination for effective action against drug trafficking.

The Deputy Director Prosecution apprised the meeting about the status of NDPS cases and legal proceedings.

The DM directed the concerned officers to closely analyse the progress of cases and strengthen coordination for effective follow-up.

The ARTO Bandipora presented the Action Taken Report, detailing the action initiated for suspension, disqualification of driving licences and suspension of vehicle Registration Certificates in drug-related cases. The DM directed the ARTO Bandipora to submit a detailed report on the auction of seized vehicles.

The Assistant Drug Controller briefed the committee on inspections and enforcement action. The DM directed the department to intensify inspections, particularly of courier service providers, and ensure strict compliance with the applicable provisions to prevent misuse of courier networks for transportation of narcotic substances.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of key initiatives including Maa Se Guft-a-Gu, Dosti Discussions, Noon Chai Talks, religious outreach through Waqar Groups and NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) wall paintings in schools and colleges.

The Exercise Range Bandipora presented its action taken report regarding destruction of wild cannabis and poppy cultivation, besides surveys, awareness camps, IEC campaigns and Friday sermons undertaken as part of the anti-drug campaign.

The DM directed the Deputy District Election Officer, Bandipora, to analyse the activities undertaken by Excise Range Bandipora during the last three months and assess their impact.

The meeting also reviewed the Rehbar Initiative, a mentorship-based rehabilitation model launched by the District Administration for sustained support to recovered substance-abuse victi The initiative aims to provide continued mentoring, guidance and institutional support.

The Medical Officer, Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF), District Hospital Bandipora, apprised the committee about the functioning of the facility and the progress of treatment and rehabilitation services.

Government Degree Colleges also presented their respective action taken reports, apprising the committee about awareness, preventive and anti-drug activities undertaken among students and educational institutions.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003 and measures under Mission Vatsalya/Child Protection Services.

Emphasising the need for sustained and coordinated action, the DM directed all concerned departments to maintain close inter-departmental coordination, intensify enforcement and preventive measures, strengthen rehabilitation initiatives and continue awareness activities across educational institutions, Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies to effectively curb drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the district.

The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora, Ajaz Ahmad Zargar; Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora ZaffarHusson Shawl; Deputy District Election Officer Bandipora, Hilal Ahmad; Assistant Controller Drugs; while Deputy Director Prosecution; Chief Medical Officer; Chief Education Officer; Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Bandipora; Deputy Superintendent of Police (DAR); Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee; District Information Officer; District Youth Services and Sports Officer; Assistant Regional Transport Officer; representatives of Government Degree Colleges and other concerned officers, participated virtually.
