KP bodies condemns threats, seek security
Srinagar :Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday expressed concern over fresh threats reportedly targeting Kashmiri Pandit employees in the Valley and called for a thorough investigation to identify those behind the intimidation.
The Chief Minister said the police and intelligence agencies must take the matter seriously and ensure the safety of government employees. “The government should not be under threat, but the law and order, police and intelligence agencies should not take these things lightly,” Omar told reporters in Srinagar.
He said security agencies should ascertain the source of the threats and take necessary measures to protect employees.
“They should be fully aware of where these threats are coming from and all of our employees should be kept safe. This is a very big responsibility of the police,” he said.
The remarks came amid reports of fresh threat material circulating on social media and purportedly targeting Kashmiri Pandit employees working in the Valley under the Prime Minister’s Employment Package.
CM Omar recalled previous incidents of targeted violence against members of the minority community and stressed the need for a proactive approach to prevent any recurrence.
“Four years ago some Pandit employees were targeted and we had to face a lot of loss,” he said.
The Chief Minister, however, said the issue falls under the law-and-order responsibilities of the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.
“This is not our direct responsibility. This is the responsibility of Lt Governor . My only advice to the law and order administration is that this should not be taken lightly. There should be a thorough investigation into this,” he said.
Meanwhile, the All India Kashmiri Samaj strongly condemned the reported fresh threat letter targeting members of the Kashmiri Pandit community.
In a statement, the organisation said it was deeply concerned over the attempt to intimidate the community and create fear among its members.
It urged the Lieutenant Governor, J&K administration and police to take immediate cognisance of the threat, identify its source and ensure adequate security for vulnerable Kashmiri Pandit employees and families residing in Jammu and Kashmir.
The organisation also called upon civil society groups and mainstream political parties to unequivocally condemn such threats.
It said the administration must ensure that those responsible for such intimidation are identified and dealt with strictly in accordance with law.
Rakesh Handu, a social activist, said the recent threats to Kashmiri Pandit employees underline the need for continued attention to their safety and security.
Referring to the purported threat letter circulated online in August 2026, he said authorities should thoroughly examine the matter and take appropriate measures to ensure that employees working under the Prime Minister’s Special Employment Package feel secure while serving in the Valley. He said the safety and confidence of employees should remain a priority as efforts continue to strengthen peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.
Handu said genuine normalcy should be reflected in the everyday lives of people living and working in the Valley.
“The real test of normalcy is whether a Kashmiri Pandit employee can live, work, travel and raise his or her family in the Valley without fear,” he said, adding that continued confidence among employees and their families would be an important indicator of lasting peace. He urged all concerned agencies to remain vigilant, address security concerns promptly and work together to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
