Anantnag : Police on Sunday said that it has arrested eight persons for allegedly indulging in gambling activities and seized ₹19,290 in stake money during a raid in Pahalgam.
In a statement issued here on Sunday Police said that a police party from Police Station Pahalgam apprehended the eight persons while they were allegedly gambling on the banks of Lidder Nallah at Laripora, Pahalgam. All the accused are residents of Srinagar.
The arrested persons have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh. Rasool Bhat, resident of GuzarbalChatabal; Danish Amin Khan, son of Mohd Amin Khan, resident of Syed Hameed Pora, Nawabazar; Aabid Hassan Najar, son of Gh. Hassan Najar, resident of KhanawariZaldegar, Nawabazar; Suhail Ahmad Najar, son of Gh. Nabi Najar, resident of Rajouri Kadal; Bilal Ahmad Matoo, son of Abdul Aziz Matoo, resident of Khandbawan, Nawakadal; Fardeen Ahmad Rah, son of Reyaz Ahmad Rah, resident of Syed Hameed Pora, MR Gung; Javid Ahmad Hurrah, son of Ali Mohammad Hurrah, resident of Laigerduri Eidgah, Wanganpora; and Uzair Yaqoob Najar, son of Mohammad Yaqoob, resident of Dal Hassan Yaar, Munawar Khayam. Police said ₹19,290 in stake money was recovered and seized during the operation. Cognizance of the matter has been taken and further proceedings under the relevant provisions of law have been initiated. In its statement Police warned that people found involved in criminal activities will be dealt with according to law and appealed to the public to share information about criminal activities in their neighbourhoods with local police units.
