Srinagar, Aug 22 : People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed Ur Rehman Para on Saturday criticized the Jammu and Kashmir government over the power tariff hike, alleging that it contradicted the promises made before the Assembly elections.
In a post on X, Para said that the 6.83 percent increase in electricity tariffs has come at a time when unemployment is high, inflation is rising and ordinary families are struggling to make ends meet.
“At a time when unemployment is at a peak, inflation is biting hard and ordinary families are struggling to make ends meet, the government has imposed a 6.83% power tariff hike,” Para wrote.
Referring to the ruling party’s pre-election commitments, he said it had promised 200 units of free electricity, free gas and free ration for the people.
“From free tariff promises of relief to higher bills, what happened to the promise?” Para asked while tagging Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s official X handle, @CM_JnK.
The government has not immediately responded to the remarks.
