Srinagar : The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC) at the University of Kashmir has initiated a two-day orientation program focused on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to enhance the understanding and integration of digital learning platforms among academics.
The program, titled “Promoting MOOCs in Higher Education: Integration, Visibility and Enrollment,” aims to empower faculty members from various universities and colleges in Kashmir to utilize digital resources effectively, thereby expanding access to quality education beyond traditional classroom settings. Speaking on the occasion Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan underscored the significance of digital transformation in higher education, asserting that MOOCs play a crucial role in broadening educational access and fostering a robust academic ecosystem. She emphasized the necessity for educators and institutions to adapt to technological advancements and leverage digital platforms for meaningful educational engagement. Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the potential of MOOCs to cultivate globally competitive human resources equipped for the evolving educational landscape. Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal acknowledged the EMMRC’s pivotal role in enhancing digital education and encouraged faculty to utilize the Centre’s resources. Additionally, Prof. Wilayat Hussain Razvi from Cluster University Srinagar discussed the Ministry of Education’s digital initiatives and the evolving responsibilities of educators in this new paradigm. Senior Producer Shafqut Habib shared insights from his experience in MOOC production, emphasizing the Centre’s contributions to digital learning. Director Prof. Syeda Afshana, in her welcome address, highlighted the need to transcend conventional educational boundaries and foster greater academic collaboration. She pointed out the importance of effective human resource management in the face of emerging technologies and challenges. The program includes ten technical sessions led by experts, addressing various facets of digital learning, MOOC development, and strategies for enhancing visibility and outreach.
