Jammu : Agitating ‘outstanding sportspersons’ in Jammu officially called off their 15-day indefinite hunger strike after receiving a formal written assurance from Youth Services and Sports Minister Satish Sharma that the controversial S.O. 12 selection list would be kept on hold and subjected to a thorough review. The protest, led by athlete Ranjodh Singh near the Maharaja Hari Singh statue, had gathered widespread support from civil society groups, local bodies, and political delegations over allegations of nepotism and back-door entries in job allocations under the sports quota.
The breakthrough followed initial discussions initiated by Minister Satish Sharma during his visit to the protest site on August 15. Departmental officials confirmed that the government’s written commitment outlines a complete re-examination of the current sports recruitment framework. The administration plans to reframe existing selection policies to ensure maximum transparency, institutional accountability, and fair opportunity for all deserving athletes across Jammu and Kashmir.
