“Govt Committed to Regional Growth, Constitutional Safeguards”
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of a dedicated Bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Welcoming the landmark decision, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah said that the move marks a significant milestone in bringing judicial infrastructure directly to the doorstep of the region’s population.
Highlighting the long-standing geographic hurdles faced by local residents, officials said the bench will drastically reduce both the travel time and financial burden previously required to access legal remedies. Home Minister Shah emphasized the administration’s broader vision for the Union Territory, writing on X, “The Government is fully committed to the all round development of Ladakh and to ensuring constitutional safeguards.” The step is expected to strengthen administrative efficiency, accelerate case disposal rates, and fortify rule-of-law mechanisms across the high-altitude territory.
