Jammu : Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Wednesday emphasised the need to further strengthen the rural road connectivity in Mendhar constituency under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), particularly in remote and hilly areas, to ensure better access to essential services and socio-economic opportunities.

He made these remarks while reviewing the progress of PMGSY works in Mendhar constituency at a meeting convened at the Civil Secretariat, Jammu, which was attended by senior officers of the concerned departments.

Reviewing the status of PMGSY works in Mendhar, the Minister enquired about the progress of ongoing works and the status of the tendering process. He directed the concerned officers to maintain close monitoring of all ongoing projects and ensure their timely completion while adhering strictly to prescribed quality standards.

Rana underscored that reliable road connectivity is particularly important for Mendhar, given its hilly terrain and geographically difficult areas. He said that PMGSY roads play a vital role in connecting the remote habitations with administrative centres and facilitating access to education, healthcare, markets and other essential services.

Taking note of the roads and road infrastructure damaged due to recent rains, flash floods and landslides in Mendhar, the Minister directed the officers to expedite the tendering process for eligible damaged roads proposed for inclusion under PMGSY so that restoration works can be taken up on priority and connectivity restored at the earliest.

He exhorted the officers to complete all necessary procedural formalities without delay and ensure that eligible damaged road stretches are processed for inclusion under the PMGSY framework expeditiously. He also stressed effective coordination among the concerned departments to address bottlenecks and accelerate the execution of restoration works.

The Minister emphasised that restoration of damaged road connectivity must remain a priority, particularly in remote areas of Mendhar. He called for a proactive and result-oriented approach to minimise the inconvenience being faced by the people.

Rana reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure equitable development and last-mile connectivity, stating that robust rural infrastructure is essential for improving the quality of life and creating better socio-economic opportunities for the people.
