80th Independence Day celebrated with patriotic fervour across Kashmir

Functions held at district, sub-divisional, tehsil headquarters

Srinagar :The 80th Independence Day was celebrated across Kashmir Division with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm, with Deputy Commissioners and other designated officers hoisting the National Flag, inspecting parades and addressing gatherings at district and sub-divisional headquarters.

Shopian: The main function was held at District Police Lines, where DC Shishir Gupta hoisted the Tricolour and took the salute at a parade comprising J&K Police, CRPF, Women Police, FPF, Home Guards, NCC and school contingents. Cultural programmes were also presented and outstanding performers felicitated. Similar functions were held at the Mini Secretariat, Zainapora and other tehsil headquarters.

Kulgam: At DPL Kulgam, DC Shahzad Alam hoisted the National Flag and took the salute at an impressive parade. He paid tribute to freedom fighters and called for unity, brotherhood, constitutional values and collective responsibility. Cultural performances by students added colour to the celebrations. Flag-hoisting ceremonies were also held at Mini Secretariat, DH Pora and other locations. Ganderbal: DC Jatin Kishore hoisted the National Flag at Qamaria Stadium and took the salute at the march past. He highlighted progress in connectivity, infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, tourism and youth entrepreneurship. He also called for a united effort against drug abuse and urged citizens to contribute towards a cleaner, greener and developed Ganderbal.

Bandipora: The main function was held at Government Higher Secondary School Nadihal, where DC Indu Kanwal Chib hoisted the Tricolour and inspected the parade. She highlighted infrastructure, tourism, livelihood and waste-management initiatives, besides the campaign against drug abuse. Students presented patriotic, Kashmiri, Shina and Gojri performances. Similar celebrations were held at Mini Secretariat, Sumbal, Gurez and other locations.

Pulwama: At DPL Pulwama, DC Dr Basharat Qayoom hoisted the National Flag and took the salute at the ceremonial parade. He highlighted progress in health, education, agriculture, horticulture, infrastructure and employment, while stressing youth empowerment and a drug-free society. Functions were also held at Awantipora, Tral and other sub-divisional, tehsil and block headquarters.

Anantnag: DC Dr Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat hoisted the National Flag at the DC Office and was presented a guard of honour by the Police. He paid tribute to freedom fighters and stressed accountability, transparency, public service and the role of youth in achieving Viksit Bharat 2047. Officers, civil society members and social activists were felicitated.

Budgam: The main function was held at Sports Stadium Budgam, where DC Athar Aamir Khan hoisted the Tricolour and took the salute at the parade. He highlighted development in roads, healthcare, water supply, power, agriculture and employment. Cultural programmes were presented by students and artists, while employees, journalists, writers, students and other achievers were felicitated. Handwara: ADC Handwara Javed Naseem Masoodi hoisted the National Flag at DPL Handwara and took the salute at a parade involving Police, CRPF, FPF, Home Guards, NCC and students. Cultural programmes and tableaux showcasing development initiatives were also presented. Similar celebrations were held across government offices, institutions, blocks and panchayats.

Karnah: At SDH Karnah, SDM Mohd Raiyaz hoisted the Tricolour amid participation of students, security forces, civil administration and local residents. A march past and colourful cultural programmes highlighted Karnah’s cultural heritage and the message of unity in diversity. The SDM appreciated the cooperation between residents, administration and security forces.

Sopore: At Khushal Stadium, ADC Sopore Dr S.A. Raina hoisted the National Flag and took the salute at the march past. He paid tribute to freedom fighters and highlighted development in agriculture, education, healthcare, connectivity, social welfare and youth empowerment. Cultural programmes were also presented by students and local participants.
