• Says “India can no longer move forward with small dreams”
• Calls for strong resolve, greater capabilities to achieve 2047 goal
• Urges citizens to put national interest above self-interest
New Delhi| August 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called upon citizens to nurture big dreams, make firm resolutions and strengthen their capabilities to build a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, saying India can no longer move forward with small ambitions.
Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, Modi said high aspirations broaden the country’s vision and strong resolve helps overcome difficulties.
“We can no longer move forward with small dreams. We must dream big,” the Prime Minister said, stressing that when dreams and resolutions are high, the capabilities to achieve them also rise.
‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047: Modi said India had set a “very big dream” of becoming a developed nation by the time it completes 100 years of Independence in 2047.
He called for the collective efforts of 140 crore citizens to achieve the goal, saying India’s resolve to become a developed nation would also influence how the world views the country. The Prime Minister said India had gained “new momentum” over the past 12 years and asserted that the determination and capabilities of its people could no longer be stopped.
Calls for national interest, duty: Referring to his ‘PanchPran’, Modi said the five pledges had strengthened the country’s sense of self-pride and its ability to surpass its goals. He called for overcoming the “mentality of slavery” and drew inspiration from leaders and freedom fighters including Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Sardar Patel, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Birsa Munda and Jyotiba Phule. “Let us reiterate this resolve: The nation’s interest must come before our own, and duty must define our identity,” he said. Modi described the present as a defining moment for the country and urged citizens to “transform dreams into resolve, resolve into capability, and capability into success.” “Let us together build a developed India,” he said.
