New Delhi rejects Pakistani threats, links treaty revival strictly to permanent cessation of cross-border terrorism

New Delhi : India firmly declared on Friday that its position regarding the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) remains completely unchanged, following recent hostile warnings from Pakistan. Reaffirming that the entire territories of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal advised the international community to focus instead on state-sponsored atrocities and human rights violations taking place in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
New Delhi had placed the 1960 water-sharing agreement in abeyance following a major terror attack in Pahalgam, maintaining that normal diplomatic treaties cannot function concurrently with cross-border terrorism.
“There is no change in the way we think. Our position on the treaty is clear,” stated MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
“The whole of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable part of India,” Jaiswal reiterated.
