Bandipora, Aug 14: After five days of relentless search operations, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), in coordination with local volunteers, on Friday retrieved the body of a man who had drowned in Bandipora earlier this week.
The deceased has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Gujjar, son of Mohd Gulab Gujjar, a resident of Yala Banakoot, Bandipora.
Officials said Showkat Ahmad Gujjar had drowned in Nalla Madmati at Natipora, Bandipora, on August 10, 2026. Following the incident, extensive search operations were launched by the SDRF with the assistance of local volunteers.
After sustained efforts spanning five days, the body was successfully recovered from Wullar Lake on August 14, 2026.
The body was subsequently handed over to the local police for completion of legal formalities.
Local residents appreciated the tireless efforts of the SDRF personnel and volunteers who remained engaged in the search operation despite challenging conditions.
