Pulwama : Police on Thursday said that it has seized five vehicles for illegal mining and unauthorized mineral transportation in Anantnag district.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Police said that while acting on specific intelligence, a team from Police Post Lassipora intercepted three dumpers—bearing registration numbers JK13G-0576, JK13E-1911, and JK13G-9907—at Main Chowk, SIDCO. Loaded with illegally extracted sand and boulders, the vehicles were impounded on the spot after their drivers failed to produce valid transit permits. In a parallel operation, officers from Police Post Newa impounded a JCB (chassis no. RAJ3DXINC02897770) and a tractor (JK18-3493) caught carrying out illegal mining at Chewekalan near Romshi Nallah.
Following the operations, formal cases were registered under FIR No. 105/2026 at Police Station Litter and FIR No. 147/2026 at Police Station Pulwama, with further investigations currently underway. Reaffirming their zero-tolerance stance against ecological plunder, local authorities reiterated that strict drives against unauthorized mineral extraction will continue unabated to safeguard public property and the region’s natural resources.
