Srinaga: Director General Jammu & Kashmir Police Nalin Prabhat on Thursday reviewed security arrangements across Srinagar and North Kashmir ahead of Independence Day celebrations, directing security forces to maintain heightened vigilance and strengthen coordination to ensure peaceful conduct of August 15 events.
DGP Prabhat chaired a high-level security review meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, which was attended by senior officers of J&K Police, BSF, CRPF, SSB and other security and intelligence formations.
The DGP stressed intelligence-based operations, intensified area domination, night patrolling and strict checking at vulnerable locations and inter-district routes. He also called for close coordination among different security agencies and strict adherence to standard operating procedures.
Security arrangements at major Independence Day venues, particularly Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, were reviewed in detail. The DGP directed officers to ensure effective access control, anti-sabotage measures, surveillance, deployment and traffic regulation around the venue.
Later, DGP Prabhat, accompanied by IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi, SSP Srinagar Dr G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy and other jurisdictional officers, conducted a late-night ground review of security arrangements at various locations in Srinagar.
He inspected naka points and security deployments and visited Bakshi Stadium to assess arrangements on the ground. The DGP also interacted with personnel deployed for security duties and briefed them on operational requirements.
The police chief subsequently visited Sopore to review the security situation in North Kashmir and assess preparedness in the Baramulla and Sopore police districts.
During the field review, DGP Prabhat took stock of counter-terrorism operations, troop deployments, area domination and security measures with senior officers, including DIG North Kashmir Range Vinod Kumar, SSP Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh and SSP SoporeIftkhar Talib.
The DGP directed officers to maintain sustained vigilance and ensure coordinated deployment of security personnel during the Independence Day period.
The reviews come ahead of August 15 celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir, with security agencies stepping up surveillance, checking and area domination measures at key locations and along vulnerable routes.
The police have also emphasised that security arrangements should be implemented without causing unnecessary inconvenience to the public.
