Srinagar : An armless para-cricketer and a government school teacher from South Kashmir have been invited by President Droupadi Murmu to attend the prestigious ‘At Home’ reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 15.
Reports said that Para-cricketer Aamir Hussain from Bijbehara, Anantnag, who was born without arms, developed a unique technique to play cricket by holding the bat between his neck and shoulder and bowling with his feet. His inspiring journey previously earned him a personal meeting and praise from legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Expressing his joy, Aamir shared that the recognition brought immense pride to his entire village, adding, “When we received this invitation, the entire village was very happy and proud. For us, receiving such an invitation is a moment of great joy.” He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is full of incredible potential and urged youth to stay focused, noting, “Every corner has people with incredible potential. What matters is giving that talent the right platform and encouragement.”
Joining him at the national celebration is Waseem Ahmad Lone, a dedicated government teacher posted at Government Middle School Durhama in Kulgam. Lone earned recognition for leading a remarkable community outreach drive that transformed student enrollment at his school from a mere 12 children to 125. Overjoyed by the invitation, Lone dedicated the honor to his peers, stating, “Today is a very happy occasion for me as I have received an invitation from the President. This is a matter of joy not only for me but for the entire teaching community. I would urge all teachers to teach children by considering them as their own.” Describing the effort behind the turnaround, he explained, “The roll at the school was very low. We started a drive, and the school has now crossed a good number of students. The enrolment increased from just 12 to around 125,” expressing gratitude that his team’s hard work was recognized by higher authorities.
