Bandipora : The league is being organized by the Wushu Association of J&K with the aim of promoting women’s participation in sports, identifying grassroots talent, and empowering young girls through martial arts.
The two-day ASMITA District Wushu League Bandipora began on Monday at Universal Educational Trust Plan, Bandipora, featuring a Sanda event across more than 25 weight categories with the enthusiastic participation of 250 young athletes competing in Sub-Junior (U/14), Junior (U/17), and Senior (Above 18) age categories.
ASMITA, which stands for Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action, is a Government of India initiative under the Khelo India framework. It aims to encourage women and girls to participate in sports while providing them with the necessary platforms to develop their sporting potential.
The opening ceremony was graced by the 2IC of 14 Rashtriya Rifles as the chief guest, alongside Padma Shri awardee Faisal Ali Dar. Addressing the participants, the chief guest appreciated the exceptional performance and high level of participation from the girls.
