Rajouri : Anoo Malhotra, the Director General of Rural Sanitation in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday a review meeting in Rajouri to evaluate the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) and the implementation of rural sanitation initiatives. The meeting was attended among others by Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Block Development Officers, and various engineers and consultants.
During the meeting the discussions were focused on several critical aspects, including the current state of sanitation infrastructure, the effectiveness of door-to-door waste collection, the status of ongoing projects, and the management of Solid and Liquid Waste under the SBM(G). Malhotra emphasized the need for timely execution of projects while maintaining quality and urged officers to enhance the functionality of sanitation assets. She highlighted the importance of sustained field-level actions beyond mere infrastructure development, advocating for improved service delivery mechanisms to achieve significant advancements in rural cleanliness and waste management. Malhotra directed the enhancement of waste collection systems and the operational readiness of sanitation facilities, including Plastic Waste Management Units and composting sites. She underscored the necessity for regular monitoring and accountability at the block level, encouraging field functionaries to address implementation challenges swiftly and foster collaboration among all stakeholders for the timely completion of projects. The meeting concluded with a technical session on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), which outlined the responsibilities of Producers, Importers, and Brand Owners in managing post-consumer waste, emphasizing the need for effective recycling systems and coordination among local institutions and waste management agencies.
