Srinagar : Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kupwara, affiliated with SKUAST-Kashmir, has successfully transformed an underutilized land area into a multi-purpose agricultural demonstration farm that highlights modern, sustainable, and climate-resilient farming practices.
Led by Dr. G. M. Bhat, the initiative aims to provide practical exposure to improved agricultural technologies for farmers, students, and other stakeholders. The KVK has established various demonstration units that encompass a wide range of agricultural and allied practices. These include a Natural Farming Demonstration Unit, a Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Block, a Silvipastoral Demonstration Block, and high-tech polyhouses designed for year-round vegetable production. Additionally, the center has developed plots for improved maize and other field crops, alongside vegetable cultivation in both open-field and protected environments. The incorporation of fruit crops, integrated farming systems, efficient irrigation methods, and resource-conservation practices further enhances the farm’s offerings. These demonstration units serve as practical learning platforms, allowing farmers to observe and comprehend modern agricultural techniques in real-world conditions. The high-tech polyhouses exemplify protected cultivation methods, while the natural farming unit emphasizes sustainable practices. The medicinal and aromatic plants block promotes crop diversification, and the silvipastoral unit illustrates integrated land-use strategies. KVK Kupwara’s focus on climate-resilient and resource-efficient practices aims to enhance farm productivity, sustainability, and profitability. This development is anticipated to bolster KVK Kupwara’s role in technology transfer and agricultural extension, providing farmers with direct access to field-level demonstrations of advanced agricultural practices.
