Heavy rainfall predicted for Jammu division through August 11; light to moderate spells to persist until August 17
Srinagar : Rains lashed several parts of Kashmir on Saturday as the Meteorological Centre forecast light to moderate showers and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days.
According to the India Meteorological Department bulletin, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 26.1°C with 1.6 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8:30 AM Saturday. During the same period, precipitation was reported across the region, including Qazigund (3.6 mm), Kokernag (3.8 mm), Katra (4.8 mm), Banihal (4.3 mm), Pahalgam (1.4 mm), Batote (2.8 mm), and Bhaderwah (8.2 mm).
Weather officials project a significant escalation between August 9 and 11, with light to moderate showers expected in most places, alongside heavy to very heavy rainfall in select districts of the Jammu division and brief intense heavy spells in the Kashmir division. Intermittent light rain and thundershowers are likely to persist across many locations through August 17.
In light of the forecast, the weather department has advised residents and travelers to exercise caution, warning that intense spells could trigger flash floods, landslides in vulnerable areas, and severe waterlogging in low-lying zones.
