Ramban, Aug 07: Police fired a few gunshots after an SUV vehicle fled a security check post in Ramban on Friday morning, officials said. The vehicle was later found abandoned, while its occupants managed to escape.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a Scorpio was travelling from Srinagar toward Jammu when it was signalled to stop at the police check post near JP Gate in Chanderkote. However, the driver allegedly ignored the signal and sped away towards the Nashri side.

He said police personnel fired three rounds at the vehicle in an attempt to stop it. Later, a search operation was launched to trace the vehicle and its occupants.

“The vehicle was later intercepted and recovered, but the occupants had fled from the spot before security forces could apprehend them,” he said.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter.—(KNO)
