Comprehensive Infrastructure, Tourism Surge Drive Post-Abrogation Transformation in UT
New Delhi|: Marking seven years of the August 5, 2019 constitutional changes, the Union government stated that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a nearly 95% decline in terror incidents—falling from 228 in 2018 to 12 in 2025—alongside significant gains in infrastructure, tourism, and socio-economic development.
Official reports said that the restored peace prevented organized shutdowns from 2023 through April 2026, enabling smooth public operations while development projects worth ₹80,000 crore took shape and empowered over 9.8 lakh self-reliant citizens. Driven by enhanced security and connectivity, tourist arrivals hit a record 2.3 crore in 2024. Major infrastructure milestones highlight this transformation, including the Chenab Rail Bridge, Anji Khad Bridge, the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), Sonamarg Tunnel, ongoing Zojila Tunnel, Vande Bharat services, full railway electrification, and AIIMS Jammu. Constitutionally, nearly 890 central laws now extend to the region, complementing global cultural milestones such as Srinagar’s UNESCO Creative City and World Craft City designations, GI tags for 18 Kashmiri crafts, peaceful celebrations of festivals like Muharram and Janmashtami, and the hosting of its first Formula 4 motorsport event.
