New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) Senior Congress leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Saturday strongly condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district in which two labourers were killed, describing the incident as a cowardly and inhuman act and demanding the strictest punishment for those responsible.
In separate posts on social media platform X, the three leaders expressed grief over the deaths of the workers, extended condolences to their families and asserted that the country stands united against terrorism.
Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said the killing of the two labourers in the “brazen terror attack” in Kulgam was deeply tragic. He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and called for stringent action against those behind the attack.
“The killing of two workers in the audacious terror attack in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, is extremely tragic. My condolences to the grieving families. Strict action should be taken against the terrorists responsible for this cowardly attack and they must receive the harshest punishment. The country has always stood united against terrorism,” Gandhi said in his post.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge described the attack as “highly condemnable” and said it had brought shame to humanity. He said asking the labourers about their identity before brutally killing them reflected the cruel mindset of terrorism.
“The cowardly terror attack in Kulgam is highly condemnable and a disgrace to humanity. Brutally murdering two innocent labourers after asking their identity is a horrific example of the cruel mentality of terrorism. No condemnation is enough for such an act,” Kharge said.
Expressing his condolences to the victims’ families, Kharge urged the authorities to ensure swift and strict action against the perpetrators and said they should be awarded the severest punishment under the law.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also denounced the incident, calling it a shameful and reprehensible act. Referring to the victims as labourers working at a brick kiln, she said killing them after verifying their identity was a deeply hateful act against humanity.
“The cowardly terror attack in Kulgam is extremely shameful and condemnable. Killing two labourers working at a brick kiln after asking their identity is a despicable and inhuman act. No words are enough to condemn such brutality,” she said.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the entire nation stood with the bereaved families and called for immediate action to bring the terrorists to justice, demanding the strictest possible punishment.
The attack in Kulgam has once again raised concerns over the targeting of civilians, particularly migrant workers, in Jammu and Kashmir. Political leaders across party lines have repeatedly maintained that terrorism must be confronted firmly and that those responsible for attacks on innocent civilians should face swift justice. The Congress leaders reiterated that the nation remains united in its resolve against terrorism while expressing solidarity with the families of the victims.
