Jammu-Srinagar Highway Closed July 31 for Repairs

Srinagar : Authorities have ordered a complete suspension of vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) on July 31 to allow slope stabilization and intensive restoration work on the vulnerable Udhampur–Chenani stretch near Ladha, Samroli.
Issued by the Additional District Magistrate Udhampur under Section 163 of the BNSS 2023 following a request from the NHAI, the order targets ongoing landslide risks caused by continuous heavy rainfall since July 18. Traffic will be blocked between Jakheni (Udhampur) and the Navyug Tunnel (Banihal), meaning no vehicles can proceed beyond Nagrota, Jammu, or Qazigund after 10:00 pm on Thursday. Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic NHW) Raja Aadil Hamid stated, “Although repair work has been carried out at some places, complete restoration is still pending,” advising commuters to avoid travel.
