Srinagar : Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Ashul Garg announced on Monday that the annual Amarnath Yatra has crossed the 4.22 lakh pilgrim milestone, operating smoothly via the Baltal axis.
Movement is regulated under strict SOPs based on IMD weather advisories and track safety. Following recent adverse weather, the Pahalgam axis was suspended for Border Roads Organisation (BRO) repair work.
“The Yatra is allowed only after assessing the IMD weather advisory and the condition of the tracks. As witnessed over the past few days, the pilgrimage remained suspended due to adverse weather. Subsequent inspections revealed that repair work was required on the Pahalgam axis, which is presently being carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO),” Garg said.
Despite the closure of Pahalgam, the Yatra has continued seamlessly on the Baltal route for two days. “A total of over 4.22 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Holy Cave Shrine till today,” he added, crediting coordinated efforts by MRTs, health, sanitation, and administrative teams.
