Srinagar, July 22: The government has approved the construction of two Unity Malls, one each in Srinagar and Jammu, at a cumulative cost of ₹255 crore, aimed at promoting local crafts, trade, tourism and employment across Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the landmark projects will provide a dedicated platform for local artisans, handloom and handicraft products, GI-tagged goods and regional entrepreneurs, creating vibrant commercial spaces that showcase the region’s rich cultural and economic heritage.
He said the Unity Malls are expected to strengthen market access for local producers, encourage entrepreneurship and generate employment opportunities while enhancing the tourism experience in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister added that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to supporting traditional crafts and empowering local businesses by providing them with world-class marketing and retail infrastructure.
