Pampore A three-day Capacity Building Program aimed at raising awareness about substance abuse and addiction among adolescents concluded on Monday at District Institute of Education & Training (DIET) Pulwama.
The initiative was designed to address the increasing vulnerabilities faced by young individuals in various aspects of their lives. Under the leadership of Principal Rozy Qureshi, the program featured contributions from several key figures, including Altaf Hussain Qadri, who introduced the program’s theme, and Tasleema Jan, who emphasized the importance of enhancing teachers’ skills to effectively combat substance abuse in schools. Dr. Syed Shakeel Ahmad served as the Assistant Coordinator and Lead Resource Person, providing valuable insights into the causes of addiction, identifying risk factors, recognizing early warning signs, and discussing clinical counseling techniques. Tasleema Jan also played a crucial role in facilitating the program and overseeing practical counseling simulations. Additionally, technical training sessions led by Arshad Qalmi and Mtr. Shakeel Nazir focused on stress management, the behavioral impacts of substance dependence, and essential life skills for adolescents. The training emphasized the significance of understanding adolescent brain development, recognizing behavioral and psychological changes, and fostering effective communication among parents, educators, and healthcare professionals to create supportive environments for students.
