Baramulla : Police on Saturday said that it has intercepted and seized three heavy vehicles  for being involved in the illegal transportation of minerals across the district.

In a statement issued here on Saturday police said that a checking drive was conducted at various locations to curb violations of mining laws. During the enforcement, a police team from Police Post Mirgund seized a tipper ($JK08B-6274$) and a dumper ($JK05J-9110$) for transporting materials without valid authorization. In a separate action at Tapper, another dumper ($JK05Q-1715$), driven by Maqsood Ahmad Thaker of Boniyar, was also seized.

“All the cases were immediately reported to the Department of Geology & Mining, and necessary legal proceedings have been initiated under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act,” the police statement reads. Authorities have urged the public to report any instances of illegal mining to the nearest station.
