LG Reviews Preparations for Chinar Book Festival, Meets Public Delegations

Srinagar: Chief Convener of the Chinar Book Festival, Dr. Amit Wanchoo, called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday and briefed him about the upcoming nine-day literary festival scheduled to be held in Srinagar from July 18 to 26.
Dr.Wanchoo, accompanied by National Book Trust (NBT) representative Shobha Kapoor, informed the Lieutenant Governor that the festival will bring together more than 200 publishers and book exhibitors from across the country, showcasing books in English, Urdu, Kashmiri, Hindi and several other Indian languages.
The festival will also feature literary discussions, author interactions, book launches, children’s programmes, storytelling sessions, workshops, cultural performances, Mushairas, Sufiyana music and youth engagement activities.
Meanwhile, former District Development Council (DDC) member from Vijaypur, Shilpa Dubey, also called on the Lieutenant Governor and raised various issues of public importance.
Former Sarpanch of Flora Nagbani, Vandana Kumari, met the Lieutenant Governor and appreciated the impact of the NashaMukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, stating that the campaign has played a significant role in spreading awareness and safeguarding youth against substance abuse.
In another meeting, social activist Dr. Sheikh Jamsheed Ahmad from Handwara met the Lieutenant Governor and highlighted various welfare issues concerning different sections of society, with particular emphasis on the needs and empowerment of specially-abled persons.
