Srinagar, July 09: In its sustained and relentless crackdown against the menace of drug trafficking and the infrastructure supporting the illegal narcotics trade, Srinagar Police participated in a comprehensive drug disposal drive under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The drug disposal exercise was conducted at IGC Lassipora, where seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances connected with NDPS cases registered in District Srinagar were destroyed under scientificand legal procedures.

The entire process was carried out by the Drug Disposal Committee in strict compliance with the provisions of the NDPS Act and other prescribed legal procedures, ensuring complete transparency, accountability, and environmental safety.

During the drug disposal drive, the following narcotic substances were destroyed:

– 1.650 kg of Poppy Straw
– 113.646 kg of Ganja
– 2.133 kg of Charas
– 881.52 grams of Heroin
– 28 bottles (10 ml each) of Codeine Phosphate and 01 bottle (1940 ml)
– 12,859 Psychotropic tablets and substantial quality of Psychotropic capsules

The drug disposal was carried out in the presence of senior Police Officers and members of the Drug Disposal Committee, including SP Headquarters Srinagar, DySP DAR, DySP CID (CI), Public Prosecutor, NDPS Court Srinagar, representatives from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Executive Magistrate, Legal Metrology Department, J&K Pollution Control Board, and other officers of District Police Srinagar.

The initiative reflects the unwavering resolve of the Jammu & Kashmir Police to eliminate the menace of drug abuse, dismantle narcotics trafficking networks, and ensure that seized contraband is disposed of in a lawful, transparent, and time-bound manner. Such measures not only prevent the recirculation of narcotic substances but also reinforce public confidence in the criminal justice system.

J&K Police remains steadfast in its mission to make the district drug-free and will continue to take stringent legal action against individuals and organised networks involved in drug peddling and trafficking.
