Agartala, July 8 (UNI) The Additional Sessions Judge in North Tripura convicted a resident of Jammu & Kashmir, after finding him guilty in a drug peddling case, and awarded him 12 years rigorous imprisonment.
According to the judgement, the convict, Manjoor Ahamed Chachi, has also been imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh, and if he fails to pay this amount, he faces an additional six months of Rigorous Imprisonment. He was booked under Sections 20(b) (ii) (C) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in February 2022.
The incident occurred on the morning of February 1, 2022, when police executed a special vehicle inspection at Churaibari Naka Point in North Tripura, along Assam border. During this operation, a truck going out of the state was stopped, and during the search, 260 kg of dry cannabis was recovered from a hidden chamber of the vehicle.
The truck’s driver, identified as Manjoor Ahamed Chachi, was apprehended at the scene and charged under the NDPS Act. A comprehensive investigation led to the submission of a charge sheet on July 31, 2022. After a prolonged trial, the Additional Sessions Judge found the accused guilty and awarded punishment.
