DC Kulgam chairs Monthly District Level NCORD Committee Meeting

Kulgam :A District Level NCORD (Narco-Coordination Centre) Committee meeting was held here, Wednesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Shahzad Alam to review the progress of the 100-Day Campaign against Drug Abuse being run across the district.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner took a detailed review of the enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation initiatives undertaken as part of the campaign. It was informed that during the campaign period, 80 FIRs have been registered against 89 individuals involved in drug-related offences. Additionally, 34 driving licenses and 22 registration certificates (RCs) of vehicles used in the transportation of contraband have been suspended as part of the crackdown on the drug trade network in the district.

Reviewing the achievements, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to further intensify enforcement action against drug peddlers and to ensure strict implementation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He stressed upon erasing the menace of drug abuse from its roots through sustained and coordinated action by all stakeholder departments.

The Deputy Commissioner further emphasized the need to focus on the rehabilitation of victims of drug abuse and their reintegration with livelihood opportunities, so that affected individuals and families can return to a life of dignity and self-reliance. He directed the concerned officers to ensure that de-addiction, counselling, and skill-based livelihood support mechanisms are strengthened and made accessible at the grassroots level.

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the administration’s firm commitment towards making Kulgam a drug-free district and appealed to civil society, religious scholars, and the general public to actively participate in the campaign to eradicate this social menace.

An impact report of 80-Day against Drug Abuse was also released by Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, highlighting the activities carried out in Demand Reduction, Supply Reduction and Rehabilitation.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kulgam, Viqar Ahmed Giri; DPO, Zaheer Ahmad Kaifi; SDM DH Pora, Bashir-ul-Hassan; ACR, Riyaz Ahmad Shah; ACD, Bilal Ahmad Kamgar; Tehsildars and other members of the NCORD Committee .
