One dead, three missing as car plunges into Drass river in Kargil

Massive rescue operation underway

Kargil: One person died while three others went missing after a car plunged into the Drass River near Marpoochoo area of Drass in Kargil district on Tuesday.
An official said that a Fronx vehicle bearing registration number LA01-4920 met with an accident and fell into the river. Four people were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
He said the body of Agha Syed Baqir (35), son of Syed Muslim and a resident of Lankerchay, was recovered from Thanda Morh, Chowkiyal.
Three others —Sajad Hussain (26), son of Haji Abbas of Lankerchay, Hasina Banoo (25), daughter of Mehmood Hussain of Gato Lankerchay, and Sogra Banoo (23), daughter of Mohd Ali of Gato Lankerchay—remain untraced.
Rescue teams and Drass Police have launched a massive search operation along the river to trace the missing persons, the official said, adding that efforts were underway when the report was filed
