J&K Police busts illegal timber smuggling bid in Baramulla; Three Arrested

Baramulla, June 20: In a significant action against illegal timber smuggling, J&K Police in Baramulla recovered a consignment of illicit timber and arrested 03 persons involved in commission of crime.

A Police spokesperson said that acting on credible information regarding the concealment of illegally felled timber, a police party conducted a raid at the residence of Mohd Ameen Yatoo resident of Pinjoora. During the search operation, illicit timber measuring approximately 35–40 feet in aggregate length was recovered and seized on the spot in accordance with law. During the operation, two individuals found actively involved in cutting and preparing the timber for transportation were apprehended. They have been identified as Hamza Dar son of Sanaullah Dar and Rashid Rather son of Kamal Rather both residents of Pinjoora. All the 03 accused persons have been arrested and a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated. Efforts are underway to ascertain the source of the illicit timber and identify any other persons involved in the commission of the offence.

Police remains committed to protecting natural resources and taking strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal felling, smuggling and transportation of timber.
