Woman’s Identity Withheld; Local Man Among Victims as Day-Long Rescue Operation Concludes

Ganderbal: A day-long search and rescue operation in the Gund area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district ended in tragedy on Monday with the recovery of the bodies of two persons from a power canal, officials said.

The deceased man was identified as Adil Ahmad Tantray, a resident of Gund. The identity of the woman has been withheld.

Officials said the operation was launched after reports emerged that two persons had allegedly drowned in the power canal near Ramwari in Gund. Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, CRPF personnel and local volunteers were mobilised to trace the missing individuals.

The woman’s body was recovered during the initial phase of the operation, while rescuers continued an intensive search for the missing man. After several hours of efforts, his body was also retrieved from the canal, bringing the operation to a close.

Hundreds of anxious residents gathered along the canal as rescue teams searched the fast-flowing waters, hoping for a positive outcome.

With the recovery of both bodies, the rescue operation was formally concluded.

Police have initiated legal proceedings and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
