New Delhi, June 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu and raised concerns over the proposed closure of Srinagar Airport from October 1 to 16 for maintenance works.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of uninterrupted air connectivity to Kashmir during the peak tourism season and urged the Union Minister to review the maintenance schedule.
He suggested that the closure period be shortened, phased, or shifted to a leaner travel window to minimise inconvenience to residents, tourists, and businesses.
Omar Abdullah also proposed operating a limited number of civilian flights from the Awantipora Air Base during the maintenance period to ensure continued connectivity with the Valley.
The Chief Minister stressed that sustained air connectivity is crucial for tourism, trade, and the movement of people, especially during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
