Srinagar : The Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Kashmir, in collaboration with the University Health Centre and Meem Path Laboratory on Thursday conducted a “Comprehensive Health and Genomics: Diagnostic-cum-Awareness Programme” at the university’s Main Campus.
The initiative aimed to enhance preventive healthcare, facilitate timely disease detection, and raise awareness about advancements in genomics and precision medicine. The event saw participation from students, faculty, employees, and healthcare professionals. A key feature of the programme was a free diagnostic health camp at the Department’s Diagnostic Centre, where participants received a Basic Health Pack that included various health assessments such as Fasting Blood Sugar, Complete Blood Count, and Liver and Kidney Function Tests. Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasized the significance of such initiatives in fostering health awareness and the university’s role in community engagement through outreach programs. She underscored the importance of disseminating scientific knowledge and ensuring access to healthcare services as part of the university’s social responsibility. Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal highlighted the benefits of health awareness programs for the university community, while Dean Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Bhat stressed that awareness and early diagnosis are crucial for improving public health outcomes. Dr. Inara Abeer, Director of Meem Path Laboratory, discussed the transformative impact of advanced diagnostics and next-generation genome sequencing on healthcare. The event also featured expert lectures and specialist consultations from various healthcare professionals, showcasing the department’s commitment to community outreach and public service.
