Jammu : Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr Rakesh Minhas Wednesday  chaired Block Diwas at Mallah Panchayat Ghar of Block KharahBalli in Khour Sub Division, reaching out to people of this remote area and personally hearing their grievances on the spot.

Additional District Development Commissioner Sher Singh and Additional Deputy Commissioner Vidhu Shekhar were also present.

The programme witnessed a turnout of around 300 people, with public representatives and residents from over a dozen panchayats of the area converging to apprise the district administration of their long-pending issues and developmental concerns.

During the proceedings, the DC patiently listened to the grievances of the people which largely revolved around road connectivity, drinking water supply and power-related issues. Concerns pertaining to the Rural Development Department were also raised, which were addressed on the spot by the DC, with instructions issued to the concerned officials for their timely and effective redressal.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rakesh Minhas assured the people that the district administration remains committed to ensuring that the benefits of development reach even the remotest corners of the district. He urged the officers and field functionaries to work with sensitivity and dedication towards resolving the problems of the common man at the grassroots level.

The DC also appealed to the people to actively participate in NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan and play their part in making society free from the menace of drugs. He urged the youth in particular to stay away from substance abuse and called upon the locals to remain vigilant and report drug-related activity to the district administration.

Among those present on the occasion were Chief Planning Officer Ajaypal Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrates of Khour, Chowki Chowra and Akhnoor, Satish Sharma, Ankush Hans and Mukhter Ahmad respectively; Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr Rajesh Kumar; Tehsildar Narinder Kumar besides officers from various departments, former PRI members and a large number of residents of the area.
