Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has seized 5 vehicles, including one JCB, one dumper, and three tippers, involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals in Shopian and Baramulla districts.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Police said that in Shopian, a police team from Police Post Keegam, during routine patrolling, intercepted and seized one JCB and one dumper involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from Rambiara Nallah without valid royalty documents. A case under FIR No. 105/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant provisions of law, and investigation has been also initiated.
Meanwhile, in Baramulla, acting on credible inputs and during routine surveillance in the Delina area, a police party led by the Incharge Police Post Delina seized three tippers found involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of sand. The vehicles were seized under the relevant provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act).
In its statement Police said that actions are part of the ongoing efforts of J&K Police to curb illegal mining, safeguard public resources, and ensure strict compliance with environmental and mining regulations, appealing people therein to report any instances of illegal mining or unauthorized transportation of minerals to the nearest police establishment, assuring subsequently that identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
